Supporting the international sale of the UK’s largest casual dining brand

With the growth of private equity and venture capital money in all areas of the casual dining sector investors want to see independent validation of the return on their investments. Operators and owners likewise need to justify such investment or the sale. CACI has worked extensively in this area supporting the sale, investment and acquisition process from both the operator and the investment side of the equation, giving expert advice from a market understanding and location perspective.

The Challenge

CACI has worked with the Gondola Group on multiple consultancy projects over the last 10 years for many of their brands including supporting the sale of the Byron business. Gondola in considering its options for Pizza Express commissioned CACI to carry out a location roadmap and market capacity solution to determine the number of new opportunity markets and infill in existing markets.

The Solution

CACI carried out a detailed restaurant performance analysis to understand drivers of success. They segmented the Pizza Express estate and customer to understand the different formats and occasion to determine what drove successful performance for each, using a range of CACI models and data. This included the likes of unique detailed up to date models like Retail Dimensions, Acorn, Place of Work data and public transport passenger counts.

The Results

"CACI’s market capacity solution played an important role in the sale of the Pizza Express business. Their expert knowledge of the market, analytical knowledge and flexibility to adapt to our requirements is fundamental to why we use them as leisure consultants."
