Technical Consultant

Key Responsibilities

  • The primary role of a Technical Consultant is the installation of new software and the second line support of existing software.
  • As a Technical Consultant you will assist in all stages of the installation of the CACI software, including, but not limited to:
    Requirements Analysis
    Installation Design
Installation and configuration of the software
    Production/updating of Training/User/Technical documentation
  • Installation tasks and projects may be directly for a client or as part of an internal project.
  • The above activities are all part of a project implementation and you may carry out or assist with one or more of these activities for any number of clients/projects (internal and external), as well as technical troubleshooting.
  • Working at CACI means that you are routinely exposed to a wide array of technologies. CACI is an IT solutions supplier; customers may therefore reasonably expect members of the team to have a certain level of working knowledge of IT systems. Furthermore, having this knowledge helps you to distinguish between technology, people and process issues. You are expected to build on your existing knowledge, particularly where it is required directly on a given project.
  • Where you are to carry out training for clients, this will normally take place on the client’s premises. You will be expected to familiarise yourself with CACI training practices and documentation guides.
  • Testing is part of the software installation. You will be expected to test the installation ensuring that it is fit for purpose/ meets the client’s requirements and is ready to handover to the CACI Software Engineer or Implementation Consultant (as appropriate).
  • You may also be required to input to the Pre-Sales support process, either by developing and/or presenting software demonstrations, at any stage of the sales process, or by preparing responses to specific tender/or other, questions allocated to you. Questions/Demonstrations allocated to you will relate only to areas of the software upon which you have specific experience, or where you are considered the most appropriate person to respond to a question on a future use of the software in your domain.
  • You will be expected to become proficient about the CACI software and its related commercial markets to carry out your duties effectively. A ‘bigger picture’ approach to learning for this role is essential to the success of any installation. This learning will mainly take the form of on the job training but you will be expected to supplement your learning as directed, and specifically to keep updated with market and government related initiatives, regulations and general progress/direction.
  • CACI will provide an overview of our own application software as considered appropriate for you to operate effectively. You will then be expected to become fully conversant with the software as required to carry out your duties effectively. CACI will provide learning opportunities to support this process e.g. the preparation of user documentation on software learnt.
  • You may also be allocated second line support calls for relevant aspects of the software and software environment. At CACI, our Customer Care Team manage first line user support calls. They will categorise the severity and log them on our support system.
  • The work you receive will be prioritised and allocated to you via a Project Manager, the Department Head or the Operations Director. You are responsible for completing the work in the agreed timescales unless you agree otherwise with the person allocating the work. You will ensure that all work you are asked to do has been properly allocated to you.
  • You will also carry out other duties assigned to the team, commensurate with your experience and expertise. This may involve such work as planning and allocation jobs within the team.
  • You will be expected to follow/use and improve upon the existing, related systems and processes in use by the company, as directed. This will be carried out in conjunction with the team, the Department Head and the Operations Director, and will be fully documented. CACI creates project teams for such work, onto which you may be co-opted.
  • You will be responsible for your own time management, and when allocated to a job/project should assist the Project Manager to set your time allocation on the system so that actual time can be monitored against planned time. You are expected to complete work as planned, if you are unable to do this you must inform the Project Manager at the earliest opportunity.

  • Technical attributes expected for the role include proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, E-Mail, Web Browsing and the internal CACI Cygnum system (Training will be provided) ; used primarily in your role for recording actuals and logging support calls.
