Data Scientist


We are looking for a data scientist to work in our Data and Innovation team. Working closely with the project managers and consultants, we support the group from a technical point of view.
We collect bespoke primary research data on many projects (e.g. shopper surveys) and need to stitch this data to proprietary datasets. The challenge is reporting these complex datasets and ideas to clients in a clear and digestible format, to a wide range of non-technical users. Increasingly this transformation and reporting is done through the use of self-serve data environments. The analytics are often highly bespoke, and we are looking for someone who can come up with creative solutions to our clients’ problems.
Our team identify patterns in observed data, build models that explain the retail world, and predict things without having explicit pre-programmed rules and models. We are ambitious, love to experiment with new ideas and learn different technologies, actively sharing knowledge along the way. We take pride in our craft and our team's diverse perspectives.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Helping to create and deliver a wide range of bespoke projects and tools using a variety of different environments, languages and techniques
  • Developing our analytical capabilities, researching related technologies and approaches, enabling other areas of the group
  • Playing a part in owning and maintaining the underlying processes and infrastructure we are building to support the day to day work
  • Taking on deep-dive analysis of data and generate new business insights with the development of predictive models.

  • A degree in a numerate discipline and strong understanding of statistics
  • You are a self-starter, creative and willing to challenge the status quo
  • Demonstrate an intellectual curiosity and passion for learning in the data sciences, exploring the fields of data engineering, machine learning and natural language analysis
  • Be a communicative person that values building strong relationships and you can explain complex topics in simple terms
  • Can demonstrate skills in algorithm development, data manipulation and visualisation
  • Experience in, or comfortable with, learning to write and maintain programming code and database scripts
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.


  • Familiar with analytics and business intelligence platforms (e.g. Alteryx, QlikView/Sense, Tableau)
  • Familiar with programming languages (e.g. R, Python)
  • Familiar with database query language (e.g. SQL)
  • Knowledge of spatial and non-spatial data modelling techniques
  • Experience and knowledge of the retail property market.
