Keeping up to date with the latest news and emerging trends in the retail, residential and leisure sector is key to supporting the project work we do with our clients. This means our team are constantly searching for relevant news stories, so we thought we would share some of the best ones we have been talking about recently with you.

1. Holland and Barrett are hatching a new creme egg and its vegan

Christmas is barely over and already retailers are thinking about the next holiday (and so are we!). We all know a Creme Egg is a long standing favourite Easter treat, so no longer an excuse to break your Veganuary.

2. JD to open a second store at Westfield Stratford City

After Topshop’s announcement that it will be closing its store at Westfield Stratford City, we are interested to see what strategy JD will take with its second location at the mall.

3. Innovation in payment technology brings us hand recognition

Amazon and Visa have partnered up to deliver a new patented payment method. This futuristic feature requires only a person’s hand print to pay in store. There’s no excuse for forgetting your purse now.

4. John Lewis launch new scheme to support young expecting families

An initiative has been launched by John Lewis & Partners and National Childbirth Trust to support expectant parents with free nursery advice, gift packs and special offers in store.

Landmark Frasers store to open in Sheffield

Mike Ashley’s Fraser’s Group will repurpose 65,000sqft in Meadowhall into their new store concept “Frasers” selling luxury lifestyle and fashion products and also featuring a Champagne Bar – perfect after a tough day of shopping. Read more here.

5. Asda launches first ever 1 hour Click & Collect

Here at PCG we love the idea of putting in your food order as you leave the office and it being packed and ready to pick up on your way home. This is a great step forward in the coming together of Bricks & Clicks. Find out more here.

6. Virtual Reality harnessed by Walgreens as a staff training tool

Walgreen’s Boots Alliance have teamed up with Microsoft to use virtual reality to train team-members on new store layouts before they’re even open. This pilot is kicking off in Tennessee, USA, but it will be interesting to see how this spreads across the Atlantic.

7. Try before you buy with ASOS’s augmented reality tool

As dedicated ASOS lovers at PCG we are interested to see if this really works and enhances our online shopping experience, which could be dangerous for the bank balance. Find out more.

8. Not such a Blue Monday at Liverpool One

We’re all glad Blue Monday has passed for another year. Regardless of the time of year everyone loves a Monday pick-me-up and we’re very jealous of those lucky Liverpool One shoppers that received one of these bouquets.

9. John Lewis kick of the New Year with a fresh new line of make up designed for men

Its great to see War Paint, which started off as an entrepreneurial idea featured in Dragon’s Den on the shop floor of major retailer, John Lewis & Partners. PCG are certainly going to keep an eye out to follow the growth of this trend in 2020. Find out more.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s London

The dream of Breakfast in Tiffany’s has long been a reality in New York, with their blue box café, but finally the experience has come to London! Jewellery and brunch what more could anybody want.
