Recently, our Director of Strategy and Growth, David Sealey, sat down with one of our experts in digital marketing, Faye Dineen, to have an insightful discussion about how the digital marketing landscape has evolved over the past decade and what is to come from this space. In the interview she explores the major transformations that have occurred in the last ten years for digital marketers, including the rise of social media and mobile apps:

Apps are accounting for 83% of mobile screen time in the UK… Only 17% of time on your mobile is actually on a web browser as compared to an app.

She highlights the important part that the third-party cookie played in allowing personalisation and behavioural targeting for the first time.

She also reminisces on the trends that didn’t make it through the decade, like Google glasses and the QR code and why she thinks that they did not last:

A lot of the time these innovation technologies have a sound concept but unless the technology is there and unless the market is ready to embrace them, they are just not going to succeed.

Finally, she picks her top trends that marketers should be investing in this decade in order to reach the right customer at the right time – AI and messaging apps.
