The Shrewbury and Telford Hospital

Taking data from ward to board

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of district general hospital services for nearly half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales.

The challenge

Having recently put in place a new data warehouse, SaTH wanted to improve information access amongst managers and clinical teams, allowing them direct access to business critical performance dashboards. Reporting was historically time consuming and slow, with information often being out of date by the time it reached the board.

The solution

The Trust is now feeding data from their data warehouse into Qlik Sense to provide ward managers, clinical leads and the exec board with real-time access to more than 20 performance dashboards. Some of the dashboard apps are refreshed every few minutes, and are displayed in the wards and accessed via iPads, providing seamless access for mobile and desk based users.

The benefits

The Trust now has access to more data, which is current and in a format that can be accessed and understood by all users. Qlik Sense gives them a complete picture of Trust performance, allowing them to quickly determine what has happened and why. The apps are also being used to support national initiatives such as Red to Green.

“Since we started using Qlik Sense we are now more able to share our performance indicators more easily; importantly we have visibility of what’s happening here and now, not several weeks ago. The real value of Sense for us is in the visualisation and how easy it is for the end users to get the insight they need, without having to request and work with ad hoc data extracts.”
