Technical Product Owner

About the business division

The Solutions team at CACI Enterprise Systems plays a pivotal role in defining the product strategy, supporting sales engagements and shaping delivery of software solutions.  This relies on thought leadership and extensive communications with customer and internal stakeholders at all levels to thoroughly understand high-level requirements, articulate a clear vision and achieve buy-in.

Our customers are typically UK Government agencies and local authorities, and the ability of the Solutions team to recognise and respond to their needs is crucial to the continuing success of our business.
Key internal touchpoints for the Solutions team are the Business Development team, Delivery team, Customer Care team and senior management.

The role of Technical Product Consultant is a specialist focussed on the non-functional aspects of CACI Enterprise Systems’ Cygnum product and wider proposition, including technical platform and integration.

Key responsibilities

1. Shape our Technical Roadmap
You will work closely with the Product Manager to align the product roadmap with the anticipated future needs of our customers, including:
• Staying abreast of industry standards and third-party roadmaps
• Drafting high-level requirements and defining business cases for our product to maintain technical compliance as operating systems and other third-party components evolve
• Drafting high-level requirements and defining business cases for our product to achieve security standards in line with public sector conventions
• Drafting high-level requirements and defining business cases to align our product with solution architecture and integration best practice (e.g. TOGAF, OpenAPI)
• Identifying opportunities and defining business cases for our product to take advantage of new technology
• Drafting collateral to support sales and delivery

2. Support Business Development
You will work alongside our Business Development colleagues in sales engagement with new prospects and existing customers, understanding their non-functional requirements and conveying a clear technical vision, proportionate to their needs, for how to deliver on them.  This typically involves:
• Reading and drafting responses to requests for information and tender questions
• Contributing to sales presentations and demonstrations
• Workshops to explore requirements and potential technical solutions
• Providing input on estimates
This aspect of the role requires very occasional travel.

3. Support Delivery
You will work alongside our Delivery colleagues to shape and consult on solution development and delivery of a project.  Whether the customer is external or internal (product R&D), this typically involves:
• Active participation in project mobilisation
• Engaging with customers in workshops and other meetings to elaborate their high-level requirements during a discovery phase
• Defining, documenting and achieving buy-in for a high-level solution architecture
• Supporting CACI colleagues as they implement solutions coherent with the architecture
Note that the role is focused on shaping the delivery rather than the day-to-day implementation.
This aspect of the role requires occasional travel.

4. Support Customer Care
You may occasionally be asked by our Customer Care team to provide input on BAU support of existing customers, for example, to advise on problem resolution or our position with respect to technical roadmap.

Core skills, knowledge, experience required

• Your ability to communicate externally and internally at all levels, confidently and with authority is the most critical factor to your success in this role.
• Familiarity with the following, not necessarily in-depth expertise, is highly beneficial:

a. Database technologies (particularly MultiValue and MSSQL)
b. Enterprise architectures (particularly TOGAF standards)
c. Systems integration standards (particularly OpenAPI RESTful services, SOAP and XML/CSV file exchange)
d. GOV.UK Service Standard
e. UK Government security standards
f. Testing tools and frameworks (particularly Selenium, Swagger and jMeter)
However, it is essential that you have an enthusiasm to pro-actively research, upskill and apply where you identify gaps in your understanding.

• You will be adept with Microsoft Office and other typical business applications.

Performance Management Framework

1. The business unit has a performance management framework to help both the business and staff achieve maximum potential.  This will involve the setting, monitoring and assessment of personal objectives which both aim to develop your career and capability, and benefit CACI by strengthening the capability of their staff aligned to their overall business objectives.
2. Following the end of your 6-month induction period there will be an initial review with your team leader and line manager.
3. Thereafter, once a year there will be a formal performance review with your team leader and line manager.  This will assess previous performance and set objectives for the following year.
4. Appropriate training (internal and external) will be made available as far as possible to support you achieve your objectives and develop your competencies.
