OSS/BSS Solution Designer

Role Description

  • Interact with the customer to define and provide systems that enhance the customer’s competitive position. The solution architect plans, designs and supports the delivery of OSS/BSS based solutions OSS/BSS providing capacity, functionality, end-user services and the ability to improve and grow a customers business.
  • Provide technical design skills on IT projects, throughout the project life cycle. Architect and Design IT solutions to meet client requirements and ensure these are successfully implemented.
  • Ensure that the integrity of the overall architecture is maintained through the use of appropriate controls and recommend architecture and design strategies in order to maximize revenue and minimize cost for a client.


Main Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with Customers, Project Managers, Solution Designers, Business Analysts, Development teams, testing and operational functions to ensure that solutions are technically viable and appropriately budgeted.
  • Review the Business Requirements Specifications and use cases. Design end to end IT solutions for projects, potentially integrating multiple systems ensuring that designs adhere to agreed design standards and methods.
  • Provide technical leadership on projects, managing subject matter experts and solution designers to ensure coherency of the “end to end” design whilst ensuring that technical dependencies are identified and managed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure that requirement compliancy to design is tracked through the project lifecycle through to deployment.
  • Manage the solution design throughout the project lifecycle through to deployment, ensuring that any defects are identified and resolved throughout the process.
  • Should technical changes be required ensure that proposed technical changes are assessed appropriately to ensure the impact and cost is fully understood.
  • Should have broad capability and understanding across Pricing, Billing, Systems and Business solutions.


Technical Skills (Essential)

  • Experience of performing an architecture and/or solution design role in a Telco organization.
  • Experience working on OSS/BSS Implementations
  • Experience providing “end to end” technical leadership for OSS/BSS projects.


Technical skills (Desirable)

  • Experience of working within a large-scale Telecom/IT environment, ideally an operator/supplier of fixed and/or mobile equipment
  • Awareness/Appreciation of Telecom fixed/mobile Operator Systems specifically Service Assurance, Billing, Trouble ticketing, Work Force Management, Network Planning and Design Systems, Service and Network Inventory, and network Fault and performance management solutions
  • Awareness/Appreciation of Telecom fixed/Mobile Operator networks including Optical, Radio and wireless
  • Experience of working on distributed IT solutions
  • Experience of business Transformation projects
  • Good knowledge of ITIL v3, TAM v4.3, TOGAF v9 and UML2
  • Ability to actively participate  in process definitions, analysis of deliverables, interviews and workshops with process participants (e.g. Product Owner, Developers), Business Solution Architects and review of the various design deliverables, in order to understand potential gaps, risks and issues with the various design elements
