Key responsibilities

Based at our Head Office in West Kensington, London, the Legal Department is seeking a proactive, dedicated and highly diligent commercial lawyer to provide compliance and regulatory support, with emphasis on data privacy/GDPR, as well as general commercial and legal advice to the business and support functions (predominantly on the Marketing Solutions side of the business). 
We are a highly sales-driven business, and since we are US-owned, we have quarterly sales/revenue targets which require legal agreements for those sales to be completed by the end of the relevant quarter.  
Typical responsibilities include:
  • Routinely giving data privacy advice. In particular, you must have experience of advising generally on the DPA and GDPR, advising and drafting data protection clauses in commercial agreements, advising the business on how to prepare and comply with GDPR, completing data privacy questionnaires that are required for compliance audits/ tender bids/clients.
  • Negotiating, drafting and concluding general commercial agreements such as data processing agreements, services agreements, master services agreements, framework supplier agreements, NDAs, consultancy agreements, licensing agreements, reseller agreements.
  • Occasionally reviewing tender terms and conditions (private and public sector).
  • Dispute management.

Candidates must have proven experience along with the following core skills and knowledge:

  • A commercial lawyer with a minimum one year’s post qualification experience in the area of data privacy as it applies in the UK, including experience of negotiating data protection clauses in commercial agreements and data processing agreements.
  • Must be confident and resilient, with experience in dealing with highly pressured contractual deadlines and good people interaction and communication skills.
  • Must be experienced and confident in negotiating with clients’/suppliers’ in-house lawyers and external lawyers.
  • Must have experience in drafting and reviewing standard terms and conditions for the supply of data and/or services.
  • Be adept at communicating difficult/technical concepts commercially and explaining warranties and indemnities in layman’s terms to the business).
  • Must be flexible, pro-active and enthusiastic with the desire to learn and develop within our business.
  • From time to time you may be involved in M&A transactions, so a basic understanding of company law would be helpful as well as experience of involvement in due diligence processes.
The salary for this role is up to £60,000 plus benefits.
