CACI works with National, Regional and Local Government on a wide variety of issues. Over 70% of all Local Authorities are clients of products including ACORN, PayCheck, StreetValue, Community Insights, Expenditure Data, Retail Footprint and InSite.
CACI also provides a range of consultancy services to the Public Sector, which maximise the value of these products through the combination of unrivalled analytical expertise and practical experience. Further details can be found in CACI’s newsletter - Public Sector Insights.
Community safety
Communities have a range of crime and safety needs. These needs are often related to the demographics and lifestyle attributes of the local population. Analysis of the British Crime Survey by ACORN shows that crime and fear of crime is strongly linked to geo-demographic characteristics.
CACI’s Community Insights database offers a unique link between the British Crime Survey, ACORN and neighbourhood demographics. It provides a local picture of crime and community safety issues allowing the police to accurately address local concerns.
CACI’s mapping and analysis tool, InSite, delivers the ideal opportunity to combine locally held information with the Community Insights database and the ACORN neighbourhood classification.
CACI have recently held Community Safety seminars across the UK with Steve Rose from Birmingham Community Safety Partnership. The Seminars discussed using evidence based neighbourhood profiles to deliver safer and stronger communities. Download the CACI presentation. Education
Recent work undertaken by DfES has shown a high level of correlation between ACORN and pupil performance. For value added scores and exam results there is a large variation in performance between pupils coming from homes in the wealthiest ACORN category and the most hard-pressed communities.

A presentation to LEA’s on the use of ACORN and other geodemographic data in understanding pupil performance can be accessed here.
The use of ACORN in understanding a range of education topics have been examined by Medway LEA. Issues such as exclusions, transition into years 12 & 13 and access to higher education have all been shown to reflect the demographic characteristics of pupils’ home postcodes.
Further performance indicators can be found within Community Insights, including parent/child interaction, family composition and parental educational attainment.
Health
Concerns about diet, exercise and other health issues will be more important as the population gets older and increasingly overweight. The Public Health White Paper recognises that the NHS “will increasingly become a health improvement and prevention service, supporting individuals in the healthy informed choices that they make.”
In order to effectively deliver improvement and prevention services it will be necessary to focus resources on geographical areas with the greatest needs. For example, obesity and related dietary habits correlate strongly with ACORN and the ‘at risk’ neighbourhoods can be easily identified using Community Insights.
Property
CACI are market leaders in examining retail centre performance within regions and in considering the balance of retail trade across local authority boundaries. We are experts in benchmarking towns, not only through retail rankings but also in terms of expenditure performance, shopper value, retail mix, competitive position, household expenditure and visitor profile.
CACI's new Balance of Trade Report provides cost effective access to up-to-date and accurate strategic retail information. It provides key information on retail performance and quantifies consumer expenditure patterns for both retail centres and local authorities.
