CACI helps Merseyside target areas of greatest need
Merseyside is one of the poorest urban areas in the UK and has been designated an Objective 1 area by the EU. As a result, it has been granted £844m for regeneration projects.
Household income is an important indicator in recognising the communities suffering the greatest hardship. However, the lack of data at small area level made it very difficult to measure relative deprivation. To overcome this problem, CACI developed PayCheck, an income model that provides a current estimate of income for every postcode in the UK.
Merseyside has used this data to determine detailed household income profiles for each of their designated pathway areas to measure a benchmark change between the pathway areas and the rest of Merseyside. This has enabled Merseyside to identify specific areas of greatest social and economic decline and allow funding to be targeted geographically in the areas of greatest need.
