Halfords (Retail)

With over 400 stores, Halfords is the leading car parts, cycles and accesories retailer in the UK.

Having originally started working with CACI on a project basis, CACI produced definitions of Halfords' retail catchment areas which they used to look at the relationship between sales and demographics.

In time the benefits of InSite, CACI's Geographic Information System, became apparent, as it offered Halfords a tool for analysing their complete portfolio of stores and the consumer characteristics of each of their store catchments. In April 1996 Halfords took InSite in-house. Among the many applications for which Halfords is using the system, one of the most significant is in helping them to identify gaps for new out-of-town outlets, given the general saturation of out-of-town locations.

With the release of InSite for Windows, Halfords signed up for an additional three systems on the new platform.

Richard Nixon, Head of Property at Halfords, comments:

"As the retail market grows more and more sophisticated and competitive, so the demands we must make on our market analysis tools increases. InSite has proved itself to be more than able to meet our complex consumer analysis requirements, and it is now an integral part of our store evaluation process."
