Electronic Common Assessment Framework (eCAF)
The common assessment framework (CAF) is part of the integrated working agenda. Integrated working enables everyone supporting children works together effectively to put the child at the centre, meeting their needs and improving their lives. The principle of integrated working was developed to reduce duplication, break down agency barriers, develop a common language and improve outcomes.
Central to the integrated working agenda is the common assessment framework (CAF), the development of the role of the lead professional and information sharing protocols. In many authorities, the lack of an effective electronic case management system has hindered the use and deployment of the CAF and associated integrated working processes.
The Local Authorities Research Consortium released LARC3 which explored the use of the CAF process for Early Intervention and its cost effectiveness. The report states the benefits of using CAF and concludes that the costs invested in assessments and interventions are consistently and significantly lower than the future costs avoided.
