Understanding the health of your local population
The
HealthACORN classification has been developed by CACI and TNS,
leaders in their respective fields of consumer analysis and market research.
HealthACORN brings together CACI’s expertise in the development
of market-leading consumer segmentation with TNS’s wealth of data
on diet and illness. Both companies are well known as suppliers of data
and strategic insight, providing a range of services to public and private
health organisations.
The
classification groups the GB population into 4 groups, 25 types and 60
sub-types. By analysing diet, health and exercise characteristics as well
as demographic attributes, HealthACORN provides an in-depth understanding
of different communities in every part of the country. The classification
names and descriptions have been chosen to be simple and non-judgemental.
CACI and TNS recognise the need for healthcare practitioners
to be able to use classifications that give accurate descriptions without
offending communities with health difficulties.
HealthACORN offers a unique insight into the diet, exercise and
illness attributes of the people in your local area. It is the first consumer
classification to focus on the specifics of health. It gives healthcare
practitioners a ‘pen portrait’ of their local communities
and can use patients’ postcodes to describe the health style characteristics
of any group of patients. It is equally applicable to finding people likely
to have health problems in the future as it is in examining the characteristics
of existing patients.
HealthACORN looks at the mix of people within
a neighbourhood and identifies four broad kinds of area:
Group 1 - Existing Problems:
High levels of serious illness and poor diet and consumption patterns |
|
Group 2 - Future Problems:
High levels of severely unhealthy lifestyles likely to lead to serious
illness |
|
Group 3 - Possible Future Concerns:
Generally good health but with some potentially unhealthy lifestyle
traits |
|
Group 4 - Healthy:
Good health with few lifestyle issues |
