Expenditure estimates and forecasts

Our measures for expenditure estimating and forecasting have been developed to focus on the spending habits of the UK population, to help our customers understand their target market.

Measuring how and where your customers spend their hard earned money.

Workday wallet

For many people the workplace is an important focus of activity and it's no surprise that work-based spending forms a high proportion of national retail spend.

CACI's Workday Wallet is the result of a unique research project to
examine the size of the work-based shopping basket and look at how migration patterns of workers affect the location of retail spend.

Home based spenders

Expenditure estimates cover both food and non-food items and are available for any geographic area in United Kingdom. The data is built using agreed market sizes and consumption profiles from the Family Expenditure Survey (FES), which is undertaken by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

This robust source of expenditure information offers consistent results on a product-by-product basis every year, ensuring that our customers get the best possible results from our product.

Balance of retail trade

With shoppers travelling relatively long distances to meet their requirements, large amounts of consumer expenditure can move across local authority boundaries. Balance of Retail Trade (BART) reports give information on the movement of consumer spend by local authority area and the origin of spend for individual shopping locations.

For those local authorities looking to understand where their residents shop and how much money flows out to shopping centres outside the authority, our BART report provides a comprehensive retail picture. Allowing better, more thorough understanding of the needs of your potential customers.
